Biography[]
Karen Beecher: 1990 - 2005[]
Karen is the daughter of a Frank Beecher, an engineer, and his wife Zoya, a surgeon by trade and Bialyan refugee by circumstance. Karen did more than just inherited her parents' intelligence, she exceeded it.
By age twelve, Karen had mastered her fifth language and had been invited to join the Ivy University magnate program for the third time. Instead of declining a third time, Karen's parents decided to relocate and moved to Happy Harbor which was a short drive from Ivy Town in order to allow Karen to attend this remarkable opportunity.
As part of Ivy University's special youth think tank, Karen studied under both young Professor Ray Palmer and Professor Al Pratt. Karen was even invited to help them in their private work on a limited basis.
During her second year of study, Karen met Malcolm Duncan and the two developed a strong friendship, bonding even more over their mutual love of the Titans. The two became huge herophiles. In fact, their first kiss happened on a Halloween party when Mal dressed as Cyborg, fully intending to capitalize on Karen's crush on Victor Stone. It worked.
Interestingly, Karen and Mal were oblivious to the fact that their own mentor Ray Palmer was moonlighting as a hero himself and before Ray had made his official debut as Atom. Karen and Mal had been making secret plans to transform themselves into heroes, creating powered suits for themselves in an old neglected basement workshop of Ivy U.
When the suits were complete, just in time for summer vacation, the two drove out to Jump City, put on their suits and planned to sneak into Titans Tower as an audition. Except when they did so, they found the Tower was empty, having disbanded in the wake of Tyra Markov's death. Deflated, the two packed up and drove back to Ivy U to begin the next semester.
Upon arriving in Ivy Town, Karen and Mal found their workshop broken into and discovered by Batman, Green Arrow, Black Canary, and the Atom waiting for them. Turns out their break-in had been captured on a security camera. After hearing why they did it, Black Canary talked Batman and Green Arrow into opening up the Tower for a new team which would include Karen and Malcolm as Titans.[1]

Trivia[]
- Karen writes fanfiction. Among it is "Cyborg: Turned On".
- During the Halloween party she dressed up as Starfire, who was Mal's crush.
- According to her, Mal's powers are also capable of seducing any woman with the power of song alone, but that could just be Karen praising her man's sex appeal.[2]

- Her Titans costume might be a nod to the Teen Titans animated seires. Her current costume is a nod to her appearance in Rebirth.
- Her birth date is a nod to her first comic book appearance: Teen Titans #45.
