- Mr. Chau was a Chinese refugee who relocated to Maple City during the post-Manhattaning migration. It was there he would meet his wife Chien, another Chinese refugee.
- He is a collector of antique swords, and even gave his daughter the unconventional name of "Knives" and later taught her to use her namesake.[2]
- According to his daughter he's a former assassin before he and his wife came to Canada. He retired and vowed to never kill again, unless it was to protect his family. [3]
- After Scott Pilgrim broke up with his daughter he slashed up Knives' shrine.[4]
- He's a regular in the Happy Avocado and sometimes he brings his family there.[5]
