Background[]

In the ancient times of the Age of Myth, there was a white-haired goddess known as Albina, the Queen of Beasts (or Potnia Theron). Without a pantheon, Albina survived on the worship of her own cult which lived with her on Mount Erymanthos during the reign of the Titans. For the most part, Albina was left undisturbed by the Titans in exchange for tribute. The well-respected goddess did not wish conflict and the Titans were uncertain what her true power may be as none, including their mother Gaia, could be certain where Albina had come from.

In truth, Albina had come from the island of Albion, in the Homelands, where she was known as Henwen. In times more ancient than the Age of Myth, she had been a respected figure of Ancient Albion, the lady of white. However, she opposed the demon-born Merlin's endorsement of a tyrant bastard son. When the boy rose to power, with the backing of the Sisters of Avalon (longtime enemies of Henwen), the sorcerer dispatched armed soldiers of Camelot to harry Henwen's followers and destroy her sacred sites, weakening the goddess to the point that she posed no threat to Merlin or his boy-king.

With her power base destroyed, Henwen fled to our reality where she first became known to the Ancient Etruscans as Albina before she settled of Mount Erymanthos. When the Titans were defeated, the Olympians sent Artemis and Apollo to meet with Albina. The twins were meant to negotiate a peace, but high on their newly acquired Titanic essence, the pair were quite proud and haughty. Albina's followers grew tired of their disrespect and one grabbed an adamant dagger and struck Apollo in the shoulder. Before Albina could call for the hostilities to end, Artemis had slaughtered most of Albina's throneguard.

Artemis and Apollo left, leaving tensions more than strained, and Albina expected the next time Olympians came to her court, they would arrive as conquerors. Preparing for this, Albina used her powers to transform what was left of her throneguard into fierce choiranthropes (werepigs) and sent most of them to ravage the lands of the Olympians. One of these warriors stayed behind on Mount Erymanthos to protect Albina.

Word eventually spread of heroes among the Olympians' followers that had slain the champions of Albina. Theseus and Atalanta among them. When the hero Hercules came to put an end to the heretical practices of Albina's cult, the Boar of Erymanthos stood in his way. The battle was one for the epics. Though the Erymanthian Boar was defeated, captured, and eventually slain, it's possible he died with a smile on his face, knowing he had given his goddess a chance to flee with his child in her belly.

Hoggish Greedly: Prehistory - 280 CE[]

The Child of Albina would be given the name Moccus. He spent his early life in hiding with his mother, but eventually he was left on his own when his mother went to market and never returned. Becoming a thief and growing to become a petty crimelord, Moccus drew the interest of the God of Thieves, Hermes (though he was known as Mercury in those days). The two became unlikely friends and would travel together often. However, when Moccus learned that Hermes' half-sister Artemis had slain Albina, he fled to the north and rallied the Celts against Rome.

Supplemental Reports[]

  • (Submitted by EZBreezy) Hoggish or Moccus or whatever you wish to call him is ECO's taskmaster. As Eurybia's oldest ally, he is trusted with overseeing projects that the grandmistress considers of paramount importance. If you find Hoggish, then it's a certainty that he's got a battalion of SLTR soldiers within earshot and something big and bad is going down somewhere nearby.
  • (Submitted by Four-Eyes) Among the followers of Albina was a young girl who had a gift for magic and mysticism. Abandoning Albina's commune before the fall of the Titans to further her studies, the woman would eventually return periodically to visit Potnia Theron to seek counsel and further instruction. This woman would go on to be known as the sorceress Circe. She likely learned the magic to transform men into beasts from Albina, though where Albina used the power to confer power upon her champions, Circe would pervert the magic and use it to curse her enemies. This practice would eventually result in Circe's exile from the Islands of Paradise and her nefarious place as the great witch of myth.[1]
