Matthew Patel: The Times Before - 888[]

Legends say that there was once a Daimon of the Void who did something forbidden and was punished by having its eight souls torn from its body and exiled from their eldritch domain, cursed to walk on Earth as eight beings with no memory of their former self.

Patel: 888 - 1662[]

Born somewhere on the shores of the one of the five smaller lakes that make up the Pangong Tso, one of the fractured souls took a male form and adopted an appearance similar to the people of the area. He took many names over the many lifetimes he lived, shedding identities like humans changed clothes, living among the humans though never letting himself forget that he was not one of them.

After he discovered a knack for manipulating the mystical arts, the daimon began to concern himself with blending in among the mortals around him and became more fascinated with ruling over them. At one point, the god became a ruler of a small valley kingdom and began to build himself a cult of followers. Here was when he first became known as Patel, a name derived from the local words for "little" and "leader."

However, that was not meant to last. Islamic invaders and political pressure from other neighboring kingdoms upset the stability of Patel's cult. Without sincere worship, Patel did not have the power to help his kingdom prosper, nor did he have the leadership ability to weather the hardships that followed. Patel was slain by his own priests as his kingdom burned around him.

But that was not the end of Patel. He "respawned" on the shores of the Pangong Tso. Weeks had passed before he made the trek back to his former domain, only to find it securely under the reign of another king. Patel chose to abandon his kingdom and traveled south until he came to the ocean shores.

Boarding a boat, he had thought to see what else the world offered. When the ship was besieged by pirates. Patel was interested in the life of these rogues of the waves and delivered the ship's captain to them as a bargaining chip to give him the opportunity to join them.

For a century, Patel lived the life of a pirate, sailing the Indian and Pacific Oceans, plundering European vessels that sought trade with the Far East.

Matthew Patel: 1662 - Present[]

One day, Patel was approaching a Dutch East India Company vessel as he had done many times before. However, aboard the ship was Ramona Bloem, an almost legendary courier. She turned the tables on Patel and his pirates, forcing them to dock where most were arrested.

Through use of his magic, Patel evaded capture but was eventually tracked down by Ramona. When they met in person, the two recognized what each other was and began a relationship that was doomed to fail.

When Ramona left him, Patel was broken. For over three-hundred years, Patel delved deeper into the dark arts, even diving into Hell personally to make pacts with influential infernals. After one of his more recent deaths, Patel awoke on the familiar shores of the Pangong Tso and was greeted by a dapper deity claiming to have a "most interesting proposition."
